Medical professionals-- which include Dentists, Pediatricians, General Practitioners, Pharmacists and Nurses-- travel from village to village providing much needed medical and dental services. School Bells medical team gives healthcare services to an average of 200 patients a day.
Mrs. Yvonne Bridges, the President of School Bells began the impact on the villages starting with the overwhelming medical and dental problems among children. In addition, many adults suffer from red eyes and are in need of cataract surgery and the number of cases of diabetes is high and increasing.
Cancer and HIV are are among the top killers with almost no treatment in the country. Other health complaints include malnutrition, hypertension and skin problems. Mrs. Bridges had this to say about the organization's impact:
There are after-school programs in Belize City to motivate children and build their self-esteem, which as a result, keeps them out of the streets and out of trouble. However, that is for those children whose parents can afford it.
Volunteers are needed to help make a difference in these families' lives. |
